Bell Cell Phone Advertisements – Toronto
December 13th, 2006
Design:
Client: Bell Mobility
Date: 2006
These mysterious looking blue gift boxes are literally everywhere downtown Toronto! They appear in all the subway stations, on walls, inside the trains and on the floor. They even appear as big 3d boxes outside the Eaton center and the same parallel gift wrap designs even appear on street lights on Yonge street from Bloor to Queen. They have been sitting around for quite a long time making us anticipate and notice the slightest changes such as the gift unwrapping in the graphic and builds up an excitement almost to discover what the advertisement is really about. Probably one of the more interesting ad campaigns I have experienced.

This Bell campaign was the largest advertising campaign ever built in Canada.
I worked on the Montreal portion and it was a lot of work but it paid off.

The campaign had such potential, but the end result (when the presents were unwrapped) was a huge let down. Which makes the whole esperience one of my least favorite campaigns ever. The ads had such little reference to when they were wrapped that there was no point in the first phase of the campaign… If you are going to keep a secret that big for that long it better be a good secret…

Chris – I completely agree. Stark white backgrounds, beavers floating in space: boring. It would have been so easy to continue the “box” idea and fill that space with tissue paper, and emerging beavers holding the who-cares-more-cell-phones in their paws, at least.
Fantastic start, terrible finish. Sorry Julie.

Bell has always been last in the wireless game in Canada. The design sucks, the headlines are weak adn those rats they use are disgusting. This campaign is a joke and I can’t wait untill they pull this whole campaign….

I have to agree on all counts above. Great lead that posed the question in the viewers mind “Hmmmm, wonder what and who that is??”……then……Nothing!!! No wonder Bells numbers slipped over the holiday season. BAD,BAD, BAD

I went on this site to see what the gift ads ewre for. I saw them all over the place in Toronto around Christmas, but never found out what they were for. While looking at this blog, I found that it’s for BELL. crazy, never know those beavers were what the gifts were all about. Very disappointed. Why would a company like Bell, pay for advertisement that was a let down.
