Canada Goose – Chilliwack
February 1st, 2007
Design:
Manufacturer: Canada Goose Expedition Clothing Outfitters, Toronto, ON.
Date:

Canada Goose Expedition Clothing Outfitters has been around since the 50s, but up until recently they were known as Snow Goose in Canada and Canada Goose everywhere else in the world (weird, no? You’d think it would be the other way around). All Canada Goose clothing has been manufactured in the same factory in Toronto for almost 50 years. Part of the reason for the big emblem on the arm (and all of the other more subtle wordmarks on buttons, zippers and inside pockets) is the constant onslaught of Asian counterfeits – knock-off Canada Goose jackets make for a lucrative business in Asia as authentic Canada Goose jackets can cost upwards of a thousand dollars ($CA) due to tariffs and other import restrictions.
I still feel like a 12 year old thug in mine . . .

the majority of “a Canada goose jacket” is manufactured in ASIA … then shipped to the “50 year old” CANADIAN factory and patches and minor sewing is done… its just enough sewing to legally say “made in Canada” on the label.

Hi, just wanted to know why the logo is on the left shoulder instead of the right side as you can see on official site..thanks

Hi Claudio,
That’s a good question. The coat pictured is my own, and it was purchased from an authorized reseller, so I doubt it’s a knock-off. Perhaps different models have patches in different locations?

They are NOT made in Asia. I’ve toured the plant in Toronto. Different models do have the “Antarctic” logo in different places Resolute-right arm, Snow Mantra, Expedition-left pocket, etc). As for fakes- Genuine name tag window is dull finish, fakes are shiny, Outer material is heavy dull and wrinkle free. Blow on it- breath should not go through. Best clue is fur trim. Genuine is coyote- quite distintive.

How can I tour the plant in Toronto?

A few points about fakes. As far as I know no one ever made counterfeit “Snow Goose of Canada” Parkas, so these are safe. Of ourse they’d also be 7 or more years old. Also I’ve never seen or heard of a fake Expeditiuon Vostok/ You might find this model at a bargain as it was discontinued in 2008
Haul loops- The loop should show the model (Resolute, Expedition, Heli Arctic or Snow Mantra) NOT Canada Goose

A very useful guide to some signs of a fake Canada Goose parka.

I was wondering, why is the logo inside the jacket a goose instead of the canada goose logo?

I have one quick questions: Does anyone know how to wash the Chilliwack? I know you’re suppose to dry clean it, but the coyote fur trim can’t be taken off on the Chilliwack, so do I need to give special instructions to the cleaner not to touch the fur?
I noticed that Canada Goose jackets are sized really big. If you want a slimmer look, get a size smaller. (e.g. if you wear S, get XS) . Of course, you should always try before buying. I got mine at Save More Sports Store at Jarvis/Queen. Great customer service! I recommend you to buy there if you’re in Toronto and looking to buy a CG jacket. If you’re worried if they’re legit or not, they’re listed as an authorized dealer on the CG site.
The salesperson also told me that many of his customers usually pre-order the jackets before Fall, so it’s super rare to find CG Jackets in the middle of Nov or start of Dec especially smaller sizes. I was real lucky to find an XS at this time of year. :)

I too have toured the plant .. i know people that work there ..comment still stands.. they blow gooses feathers in the shell of the coat and sew a patch on.. everything else made overseas… outer shell inner shell etc.

i’d say that one is a fake. it is a chiliwack (you can tell by the hood) and the canada goose patch should be on the RIGHT sleeve. not the left. some models do however have them on the left sleeve, such as the solaris, trillium etc. mainly women jackets. for men i think its on the expedition and another one of the really big ones. cant remember the name… hope that helps.

Definitely 100% FAKE. I have a authentic Chiliwack from an authorized dealer. Canada Goose Patch is on the right. The patch on the inside of mines is also different.

Hello what is the logo on the inside suppose to look like is it suppose to be a goose or should it be the canada goose logo like the one on the patch on the arm

I’m getting a Canada Goose coat soon, i cant wait :)
The only way to avoid a fake is to buy from an authorized retailer and pay the big bucks! :)

I heard the men’s chilliwack fits small. Should I go 1 size bigger for this model?

I got a snow goose parka second hand from “Goodwill” store for $12. Got Woods and David S. Reid Canadian made parkas for $20 at other second hand stores. Can’t see why Canada Goose has a reputation that the others do not have. They are all almost identical, and the Woods is also expensive when new. (Can’t locate new David S. Reid parkas so don’t know new price) Except for some more zippered pockets the others don’t have there is nothing to choose between them that I can make out. I don’t see why Canada Goose would be counterfeited and not the others. Is it just the brand name?
