GGRP Promotional Mailer

March 19th, 2010

Design: Grey Canada, Vancouver, BC
Client: Griffiths, Gibson and Ramsay Productions, Vancouver, BC
Date: 2009

The technology isn’t new or flashy, but in this application it’s a showstopper. Adapting an obscure technology used primarily by missionaries, Grey Canada created this no-tech record player as a promotional mailer for Griffiths Gibson and Ramsay Productions (GGRP). An original recording by the Vancouver and Calgary based sound studio (a story entitled A Town That Found Its Sound) was packaged in a special cardboard sleeve, complete with a built in needle. Simply fold the packaging into position and use a pencil to spin the record by hand; the vibration of the cardboard sleeve emits the sound!

The mailer was sent to production companies across Canada and the United States and predictably, the response has been “amazing”.

[...] The power of analog [Canadian Design Resource] A nifty digital-free, powerless technology/adaptation that plays vinyl. Not for audiophiles, but an exciting (while rooted in history) way to distribute audio without requiring your audience to have a specific type of gear. This is great idea and also great help for all of us because most of all people do not have any idea about it.
