Toronto Abcavs Gangs

December 16th, 2007

This provocative reimagining of the Bluejays’ logo has been popping up all over the place as of late. Designed by Herotic Apparel (who have carved out a niche in Toronto’s underground scene by specializing in similarly controversial T-shirt designs), Toronto Abcavs Gangs is an aggressive, confrontational, morally questionable, and yet expertly executed piece of design.

This logo is so much more appealing than the Jays logo anyways. Enough respect to the Jays but seriously, how gangster? Amazing. Props to Karl for giving birth to this gift for the city.

    what does abcavs mean?

  • 7. Karl Wojciechowski  |  February 15th, 2010 at 20:39

Abcavs is shortened from Abracadavers, a design collective started in Oakville, Ontario out of Sheridan College in 2002.

…also, when I designed the logo in question, it wasn’t meant to be morally objectionable, it was simply a graphic exploration of our city’s recurring gun-violence situation and the ways in which it (unfortunately) factors into Toronto’s identity. I certainly don’t condone the situation and it’s been interesting to watch the city’s approach to gun-crime since the fateful year the graphic was created. Thanks to Louis Norris for helping out with the vectorizing.
