Deer Crossing Road Sign

A little car trouble gave me the opportunity to finally snap one of the most frequent road signs in Ontario, the Deer crossing. Pretty much a classic as far as signage goes but with little info on who did it, or when. I have passed tons of these but only now did i noticed how crafted it is and how the bold graphic conveys considerable information in the most economical way. Great work.

We got overwhelmed with emails last night on this post, i think that we have most of the provinces covered, who knew that the old Deer Crossing Sign was such a rich design topic! Thanks Greg and others who emailed in with pics and info. We will keep adding them as we get ‘em. Here they are: BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba (great one) and Nova Scotia.

While driving across Canada, it’s interesting to compare theses signs in different provinces. They have subtle differences.

The last time I visited the ones near Edmonton have red noses, and look quick!

I have always loved how our Manitoba deer has jumped off the sign and they had to put another sign behind to catch it!
BTW – tii – nice! I read something last month that BMW is bringing back its tii marque in 2009.
