Hard to make out the product with all that packaging.

I am not sure about the “why” on this one…I like it but I have a feeling that I am missing some inside gag, or a deeper design concept.

    Is Harper a potato?

Could be intended to appeal to his critics … I’ve heard the phrase “Tu es dans les patates!”. The Wikipedia citation noted below includes the following reference regarding the word patates – “told to someone who acts out of, or makes a statement while being unaware of what is going on.” (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quebec_French_lexicon)
    Hope this helps …

    According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quebec_French_lexicon
Tu es dans les patates! is spoken to someone who acts out of, or makes a statement while being unaware of what is going on.
I assume the product is meant to appeal to his critics …
