Though easy-to-apply decorative wall vinyls may be all the rage these days, back in the 70s any Canadian wanting decorative wall graphics of their own had an arduous process involving tape, paint rollers, oversize rulers and a whole lot of gumption, to look forward to. That is until Supergraphics, a home wall graphics kit described as “Professional wall graphics made easy for you to paint” and “Everything you need – just add paint!” came along.

Looking at the box graphics, it would be easy for any DIY-minded hip-to-the-zeitgeist Canadian to have visions of fantastical geometric wall adornments dance in their head. Of course, further inspection of the box contents reveals what appears to be tape, paint rollers, and an oversize ruler. Perhaps the “Optional Item: Super-Surface” is actually pre-packaged gumption?

If anyone has information on the manufacturer of this product, or better photographs of the box contents and an explanation of how this thing works, please let us know.

I had this kit and I can confirm that it came with virtually nothing other than an idea plus rollers and tape. In fact I think the unhelpful instructions actually instructed you to supply your own compass for scribing. I was 11 when I used the kit to paint one of these supergraphics on my bedroom wall in Vancouver. It was a common Christmas present that year but I think I’m the only one of my friends who ever actually used it, and that’s because my father was a mathematician. He was able to figure out the geometry but I can remember him shaking his head and saying it really wasn’t for amateurs. You can see the graphic I chose in the second photo, far left – the black and white graphic rather like a meandering river. Sadly I did mine in red and blue on a yellow wall.

Some of the wall mural designs look like offshoots of the old and I suppose new CBC logo.
    just an observation
