Here is a pair of classic souvenir items from the pavilions at the Worlds Expo in 1967 in Montreal, Quebec. The pressed penny has become one of the staple North American souvenir items of our time, with machines seen everywhere from coast to coast to coast. Part of the appeal is the simplicity, users insert their own penny in the machine, using it as a stage to create their own nostalgic, accessible and universal vacation memento. These are the perfect design, creating little waste (no power and upscale), are highly local and linked to place, and last forever. What more can you ask for?

Never thought of these quite this way… interesting project. The Penny Smash machine should do a gallery tour.
