Sudbury is a city in Northern Ontario, nicknamed ‘the Nickel City’.
High concentrations of nickel-copper ore were discovered in Sudbury in 1883 during the construction of the Canadian Pacific Railway.
The text in the stamp is comprised of a silver foil to represent the shiny metal nickel found in the Murray Mine at the edge of the Sudbury Basin .
