Pigiarniq Inuktitut Font
November 12th, 2007
Designer: Tiro Typeworks
Client: Government of Nunavut
Date: Unknown

With only 0.01 people per 1km2 of land, Nunavut is one of the least populated regions in the world; however the 28,000 citizens that live throughout Nunavut speak at least 4 different languages (French, English, Innuinaqtun and Inuktitut). For this reason, the government of Nunavut officially adopted a clean sans-serif font by Tiro Typeworks that enables its people to use all four languages in a uniform manner. Featuring five variants as well as glyphs for all major Inuit characters, the font is freely available for download from the Government of Nunavut’s web site. Keep in mind that the character mappings are atypical, so your mileage may vary.
